Friend, fall calving season has begun at our place. (Insert happy dance here!) Seriously, I love baby animals. Calves, lambs, puppies, kittens, foals, you name it I’m here for it!
Then to top it off we changed some things around a couple of years ago and now we fall calve (calving August/September) in Yellow Bear Canyon. It’s seriously my happy place. It feels like God reached down and kissed this special place.
It’s got the best and worst of my memories planted in that soil and yet I simply smile every time we are there now. I know God had a plan for calling us to change what we’d been doing. Yes, for the benefit of our ranch. But, I also can feel the continued healing he’s doing in me taking me back to this place regularly now. Mike just smiles watching me smile the whole time we’re checking cows. Thank you for that Lord!
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2 NIV
I’m so grateful for the Holy Spirit’s leading in our lives. The transforming work in our lives through the renewing of our minds in His word!
A lot of times in ranching, things get done simply because “dad did it that way”! While I’m very much in favor of preserving traditions, I’m even more for following God’s leading for our lives. Renewing our minds so we can know His good, pleasing and perfect will for our lives.
So what might seem like such a simple thing as going against the norm of our area and starting a fall calving program, I know it’s God’s will for us. Might not be for others but it’s what God has planned for us.
So how do we know God’s will for our day to day lives? I’m glad you asked!
This might not be the popular answer but there are no shortcuts or magic wands to knowing God’s will for you. We HAVE to spend time in His word. We get to know the heart of our Heavenly Father as we let His word fall on you. When you are in tune with His heartbeat you will know His will for you.
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)
Lord, help us to make time in Your word a priority each day. Help us to seek You more than anything this world offers. Please show us Your good and perfect will for our lives and help us to be obedient to go where you call. In Jesus name, amen.
