What Critter Are You Based On How You Work?

Well this is going to be the pot preaching to the kettle here today!

Let’s chat about all the noise in our head!

Just me? Don’t get me wrong I absolutely love my life and am so grateful for each day. But…my personality is to run after all the shiny things in life, preferably at warp speed! Not going to lie it can be a bit exhausting.

I was telling a dear friend how I wish I could explain the circus that goes on in my head on a regular basis. So many amazing things to do in this life and I want to do them ALL!! How in the world can you enjoy this moment when you know the next moment is just around the corner beckoning you? (I should have typed this on my phone as a slapping my forehead emoji would be perfect right here!)

Thankfully my friend spoke life over me and reminded me that I’m uniquely and wonderfully made by our Heavenly Father. Take it back to Him! Always. Everyday. Every moment! He’s always the right choice!!

Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. Psalm 139:14 (NLT)

Do you ever find yourself having a hard time starting something because you can’t decide which one you want to start on? The most fun one of course!! But in mind, everything can be fun.

My son loves to use the saying “Not my circus – not my monkeys.” The problem for me is the circus and monkeys are both mine! 🙂 But with God’s help we’re keeping them in line for the most part!

Do you ever feel like once you get started on something you’re unstoppable. You just need to get started. Yeah same here!

What’s a girl to do?

I don’t know about you but I just have to get quiet with the Lord and see which direction He wants me to take that day. Then listen, jump in with both feet and try not to get to distracted by shiny objects!

One practical step for me is brain dumping! I’ve got to get the circus and monkey’s out of my head before I can be very productive or they keep tugging me away from the task at hand. Then I feel like I can come back to those things later if needed.

Another big one for myself is blocking in time for dreaming and planning. That might sound silly but hey it’s what works for me. I need time to daydream a bit. When I stifle that part of me it comes out in destructive ways later. As a kid, I was reprimanded often in school for having my head in the clouds. So for a lot of years I just stopped. God didn’t create me that way though so now I choose to embrace it and make time to just go there. Try it sometime. You might find it really helpful.

Also, a few drops of Frankincense on the top of head and Vetiver on the back of my neck sure helps calm the circus down a notch too!

Learning about ourselves is often a process. Discovering that the good things God has for us will happen in HIS perfect timing and we don’t have to chase them at breakneck speed is so crucial. There’s huge freedom in it friend!!

Does any of this resonate with you? I’d love to hear what you’ve found works for you to embrace this moment. What do you do to help you stay focused on what God’s put in front of you today?
